Tech Ops-Tulsa is the largest commercial aircraft maintenance base in the world
American Airlines this week announced the creation of nearly 500 new aviation maintenance jobs and additional lines of heavy maintenance work at the carrier’s maintenance bases in Tulsa, Charlotte, N.C., and Pittsburgh.
A total of 308 of those jobs will be heading to Tulsa, according to Chase Beasley, who works in community and workforce engagement, as well as special projects, at the Tech Ops-Tulsa maintenance base.
“We are thrilled that American Airlines’ new jobs announcement will have a significant impact on its maintenance base in Tulsa,” said Mike Neal, president and CEO of the Tulsa Regional Chamber. “COVID-19 took a toll on this country’s commercial aviation industry, but American Airlines has rebounded in a big way, thanks to its commitment to its workers and its craft. The base in Tulsa has been the backbone of American’s maintenance, repair and overhaul work since 1946, and today’s news is proof that the company is dedicated to serving its customers and this community for years to come.”
“American is excited to grow our talented Technical Operations workforce with more high-paying, skilled aviation maintenance positions,” said Greg Emerson, American’s vice president of base maintenance and facilities. “It’s an opportunity to grow our maintenance capacity and capabilities in the near term and preserve them over the long run by continuing to build our pipeline of future maintenance team members — which is important work American has been doing for some time.”
This week’s hiring announcement is in addition to the more than 300 jobs recently added in December 2023 to American’s Tech Ops — Tulsa maintenance base thanks to a $22 million grant awarded by the State of Oklahoma’s Business Expansion Incentive Program. The grant is helping American expand and improve the world’s largest commercial aircraft maintenance base, including American’s engine repair and overhaul facility.
